Mermaids Friends Live-aboard Diving Trip to Phi Phi Thailand, February 2007

Mermaids Divers in Phi Phi Thailand - Live aboard friends tripJanuary 2007 and another Mermaids Live-aboard trip! We thought that we'd change the location of the live-aboard dive trip to begin 2007. Usually we take trips to the Similan Islands in the Andaman Sea between the months of October and May - these have always proven to be superb. A few of the divers from the last Similans trip booked instantly for this trip  but wished to try some diving a little further south Thailand.

Tuesday 30th January we all gathered at Mermaids Dive Center, Pattaya, Thailand to set off for Phuket. The divers were; Ariella, Jer, Olivia and Crowley, Garry, Jon, Sarah, Sam, Stu, Mark and Lynne, Matt, Scott, Gordon, JJ and Pj. There were 3 other scuba divers from the UK military divers section that joined us for the trip also - Steve, Rocky and Ed - all nice chaps.

We landed in Phuket and stocked on goodies at Tesco's prior to heading for Chalong Pier where the boat would be leaving from. Our destination Phi Phi and the surrounding islands.

We set sail late evening after dinner on the boat and headed for Phi Phi Lay and Maya bay - the island and bay where the Leonardo D'Capprio movie 'The Beach' was filmed. We sailed over night to arrive and moor there until 7:30 and our first waking to our new dive destination.

The diving was very similar to the Similans Islands apart from the visibility was not half as good. A few dive sites sported 15 and maybe 20 meters vis but generally 5 - 15 meters was the norm at most sites. We dived:

Day One: Day Two: Day Three: Day Four:

  • Dive 2: Bida Nai (Inside)
  • Dive 3: Koh Bida Nawk
